We’re a
Curatorial duo
challenging conventions through alternative narratives, voices and perspectives.
ABOUT US
Located in Copenhagen, Pauline Koffi Vandet and Ida Højgaard Thjømøe engage in curatorial practices rooted in critical theory and academic frameworks.
Our primary focus is on challenging conventional art narratives by amplifying alternative voices, perspectives, and narratives. Central to our curatorial approach is the development of infrastructures for contact zones—spaces that facilitate artistic intersections, contacts and contradictions, leading to para-institutional deconstruction.
In collaboration with artists and institutions, we prioritise investigations into archives, narratives, and existing power structures. These engagements serve as pivotal starting points, fostering dialogues centered on identity, representation, and historical contexts within the realm of contemporary art.

CURATORIAL STRATEGIES
-
Re-examining traditional perceptions of knowledge, collections, power structures, history and representation as starting points for crucial dialogue. Alternative voices, perceptions and thoughts are woven into existing narratives, challenging the archives.
-
Using art and exhibitions as tools to create infrastructure and contact zones, a term coined by Marie Louise Pratt. By allowing both contact and contradictions, our aim is to build spaces for continuous negotiations, working through conflict.
-
Organise and facilitate publics to appropriate the exhibition spaces not just to be represented (not “about” something but about “doing”). Understanding counter-publics as a subset of publics that stand in conscientious opposition to a dominant ideology and strategically subvert that ideology’s construction in public discourse.
-
Inspired by the efforts of Temi Odumosu and Nicholas Mirzoeff to supply a critical charge to knowledge production. Using art as a tool to interrogate, dissect, and reconstruct histories. It’s not just about representing the overlooked, but also about engendering a profound dialogue that reevaluates and repositions knowledge within contemporary art discourses.
-
Taking cues from Chantal Mouffe and Nora Sternfeld's critique of pedagogy, we push for methodologies that decentralize traditional authoritative structures, enabling more participatory, dynamic, and critically aware educational experiences.
*The strategies are inspired by Nora Sternfeld's work, unfolded in the booklet “I det postrepræsentative museum”, Kunsten som Forum, University of Copenhagen and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, 2022.
